RE: Southwind Spare Tire

Anyone know how to remove the spare tire from a 2006 Fleetwood Southwind? I can see the spare mounted under the chassis but I sure don't see any way to remove it.
ThanksOwner's Manual available? :?

RE: Power Gear Electric Jacks, Fleetwood Bounder 38P

Mine are right next to the ram, it's the only thing that pulls the ram back to retract, I thought they were all like this, you don't have a spring at each jack? Why would electric jacks have springs? The electric motor sends them down and pulls them up. Do you have hydraulic or electric jacks?

RE: Power Gear Electric Jacks, Fleetwood Bounder 38P

I also have the Power Gear Jacks and sometimes 1 or both rear jack don't retract all the way. Mine don't have much clearance so when they do this , I put them in retract position again and take a 4 ' bar I carry and pry them all the way up. I attribute the need for this because of weak or not strong enough springs that came from the factory. Sometime, I will mount a 2nd spring to help lift them.Where is the spring on the Power Gear ELECTRIC jacks? I have not seen one?

RE: Class "A" floor mats

Floor mats: for the driver's position, I went to Pep Boys and got the same heavy duty floor mats as I have for my SUV. They come in a set of four for a car: driver's, passenger's, and two rear seats. I used the driver's position, when that wears out, I will use the passenger's one. For the MH passenger seat, I use one of the two rear floor mats.
For the rest of the coach, I went to Walmart and bought matching carpet runners. Pretty cheap and are easy to move around. In fact, as many here can atest, carpet runners move too easily.

RE: Winter Coats etc.

Well, I've installed some coat hooks on the wall (that had wood behind it) near the entrance for hanging jackets, coats, etc.
One thing about the move to a Class A, you will have substantially less internal storage space. Consider that carefully. Some friends of mine went from a 5ver to a Class A and had some real adjusting to do. They love their Class A, but not the less space .....

RE: Weldex Rear Monitor System

Sure Jerry, what I mean is....there are 4 wires within the small cable that leaves the rear camera that terminate at a small connector. The opposite connector (where cable runs to the monitor) also has 4 wires. All the wires are of a different color. I cut both connectors off their respective cable ends, exposed the wires, cut back the insulation, and joined all the wires, color for color, with crimp-on splices. I then wrapped the 4 splices with a good quality tape for enviromental reasons. Works like a charm so far.Thank you for the explaination; I thought it was a coaxial cable and was confused. This is very useful and something I can do easily.
I took the monitor to Weldex a couple months ago for a different reason; I should've asked them about this recurring problem, too.

RE: Best Tow Bar

I used Reese when I was pulling a TT. No complaints; good product.
A lot does depend on who gives you instruction on how to set it up.
With a MH and a towed, I am a Roadmaster man. Always worked for me. Good support.

RE: Weldex Rear Monitor System

I have had nothing but trouble from my Rear Monitor System since I bought my MH new. Like others of you I have read about, my monitor would go blank or have wavy lines with no picture. Turning the monitor off and back on would restore the picture for short periods of time before it went blank again. A couple month ago I cut the connectors off at the back of the camera and "hard-wired" the cables together using solderless splices and since then, 2 trips of about 1000 miles, the monitor has never gone blank and the picture has remained sharp with excellent contrast. If yours is giving you fits, you might try getting rid of the camera connectors.I have this problem, too. I don't understand your comment about "hard-wired". Could you please elaborate or point me at some more info? Thanks.

RE: Gas caps-- locking gas caps

This punchiong a hole in a gas tank is a bunch of aardvark hooey. ... Okay, so I punch a hold in your tank, drain the fuel into the pan and then pour it into my tank. No, wait a minute. I can't pour it into the tank from a pan. I know, I'll pour it into a fuel can. Nope, that won't work either...A five gallon plastic "paint" container will easily fit under my gas tank.

RE: 2006 bounder concerns

Then we experienced an electrical problem the last time we when out. We were at a State park and hooked to 50amp service but only 2 elect. receptacles were working inside the unit. I unplugged and reconnected to 30amp and everything was fine. Could this have been caused by the parks hook-up being bad? We are going to have it looked at but we don't really have a service center close that we are very confident with. This happended to me, too, at one park. I just went back to the 30 amp and was fine.
I had the hummm others are mentioning. I did not notice it associated with weather, but with speed and cross wind. I took the grill(s) off and stuck wooden dowels through all of them to change the weight of the hollow tubes, then I cauked both ends of each tube. No more problem.
Your dealer should be able to fix this for you. The 2007s and later actually have plastic caps on each end of the hollow tubes.

I haven't been here, but I've called them a few times. Friends have been there and said it's like toyland. "Near" is a matter of relativity, too.
